Leica MONOPAN 50 arrived
I think quite many people are asking the order of this new film by Leica right now. In my case I asked Leica Store Kyoto my 1st order of MONOPAN 50. Fortunately I could get now 4 rolls. Then I immediately asked additional order. But I don’t know when they come to me.
How I will consume the 1st four rolls?
I would like to put these rolls into my Leica M3 for snap shooting. But I will be patient until the additional rolls of this new film arrive at me.
So how I intend to use these 4 rolls?
Densitometer
In past time, I asked several times to crease characteristic curve ( H&D curve ) of films, which were developed with different developer, applying the different development conditions by myself. Yes, there are other ways to create characteristic curve of films. However basically it is better to use densitometer. Recently I got the equipment.
Characteristic curve by myself
For me, the purpose of H & D curve creation is;
- To confirm the development condition for my usual film with unknown film developer
- How the contrast is modified, when development condition is changed.
- To find out the film development condition to realize nice tone at dark side.
- To confirm the latitude
For the purpose, especially I would like to know the difference of new film ( or new film developer) from my regular usage film and developer. Thus I would like to create the comparison curve of H & D between new one and my regular combination of film and developer.
Until now, my long lasting usage film has been ILFORD Delta 400 professional as film and Spur Silversalt as film developer. Here is my 1st data creation result with the new densitometer;
ILFORD Delta 400 Pro + Spur silversalt tend to realize linear curve. So I use this curve as the reference for comparison . In weekends of Oct – Dec 25, I will try H &D curve creation of Leica MONOPAN 50 with different film developer and different development conditions.
