Check film concentration with densitometer

Still continue the journey to look for optimized cooking recipes to realize the better tone from lighter to darker range of Leica MONOPAN 50. Problem is that I can’t buy frequently MONOPAN 50. Although I reserved the next delivery at Leica Store Kyoto, I can’t get yet. Since I understand the difference between Leica MONOPAN 50 and ADOX HR-50 with ADOX FX39II, I use bulk film of HR-50 as alternative to try various film development recipe.

As my impression, MONOPAN 50 tends to show more richer latitude at dark portion of photo than HR-50.

Same as ADOX HR-DEV?

I intended to use ADOX HR-DEV as the next trial option to see the difference from FX39II. But the delivery problem, I didn’t get it. As alternative, I started the comparison between ADOX FX39II and SPUR TRX 2000 with ADOX HR-50. Because I was informed that SPUR TRX 2000 is same as HR-DEV.

Comparison on H&D curve

Here is Characteristic curve of ADOX HR-50 on two film developers; ADOX FX39II and SPUR TRX 2000 with almost default setting of development recipe on instruction sheet of ADOX HR-50 ( and MONOPAN 50).

On-going trials with Leica MONOPAN 50 and ADOX HR-50

At this moment, I’m doing various trials with ADOX HR-50 + FX39II, applying more different temp. and time combinations for film development to create H&D curves. The purpose is to get optimized development condition for each shooting scene (how bright, how dark, high contrast, rainy day scene, etc). If I can get some unique chart, I must report in this blog.

The final goal is to get the optimized film development condition for MONOPAN 50. Hope the next delivery product of MONOPAN 50 reach me soon.

Future trial plan

I’ve already did various film trials for ILFORD Delta400 Pro. This film is my most frequent usage for daily snap shooting. Now I’m curious about ILFORD HP5 too. Looking forward to testing the film and enjoying the shooting in my living city, Kyoto.
