From next week, the temperature must be gradually going up. In past time, the cherry blossom season in JP started at the beginning of April. Due to the global warming, the timing is much earlier recently.
This year the cheery blossom must start even from next week in Japan. At first starting in Southern area, Kyusyu. Then cherry‐blossom front is moving northward, finally reaching Hokkaido in May.
Fine cherry blossom in West JP
Kanazawa
My recommendation is Kanazawa city, my born place.
Recently, due to the effects of global warming, the amount of snowfall has significantly decreased compared to when I was a child. However, winters in Kanazawa are fundamentally long and cold. When the lengthy winter ends and spring arrives, dazzlingly beautiful cherry blossoms bloom everywhere in the city of Kanazawa. The locals look forward to the wonderful weather after the harsh and extended winter every year
Kanazawa Castle Park
I love the scene in front of Ishikawa Gate. Really miss.
Along Asano River
For me, the best healing spot. Like to visit in any season. The blossom is remarkable.
Night shot
Sakura in night time in Kanazawa is also beautiful.
Kyoto
Of course, my present living place, Kyoto, is also fine to enjoy the blossom.
Along Kamogawa River
Shiga
Another nice place is Nagahama in Shiga prefecture.
Nagahama Castle
With quite fine blue sky, nothing to say. Get on local train from Kyoto station in weekend. After reach Nagahama station in late March or early April, you can see this scene just 5 mins walk from the station.
Toyotomi Hideyoshi, one of Japan’s most prominent historical figures, founded the city of Nagahama in the late 1500’s. Originally named “Imahama,” it was renamed to “Nagahama” when Hideyoshi built a castle there after his successful campaign against the Asai clan in 15731. This castle served as his residence for a time before he moved to Osaka Castle.
Look for the blossom in 2024
So…. where I should go to see fine cherry blossom. At first, I should go somewhere in Kyoto. Still many Cherry blossom spots in Kyoto, where I don’t visit yet. Another destination should be Nara. Anyway, I would like to enjoy the new spring season.
